One location, one parked car, and the smartest staging trick in lo-fi horror: keep the scary thing offscreen. Cheap, mean, funny — exactly what I want.
Almost entirely inside one parked car with the terror happening just out of frame is the formally disciplined version of lo-fi horror — Blair Witch in a Lyft Pool with Simple Town. Constraint as virtue.
Almost the entire film inside one parked car with the genuine terror happening just out of frame — that constraint is exactly how to do lo-fi horror-comedy without it collapsing. Simple Town has the chops.
Reviews
Lo-fi horror comedy at its finest, a brilliantly executed account of an unexplainable occurrence.
