A film conversation conducted entirely through 16mm film stock, in which both sound and image are produced by painting and scratching directly on film — the work examines how the visual and auditory tracks inform and destabilise each other.

Hogg works in a tradition — direct filmmaking on celluloid — that traces through McLaren and Brakhage, and the BAFTA Scotland nomination confirms the work was taken seriously within professional structures; formally, it is as pure a statement as the form allows.
Hand-painted 16mm where image makes sound makes image. Three minutes of pure-medium honesty. The Lye/Brakhage lineage is appropriate, not aspirational.
Ross Hogg scratches and paints directly onto 16mm so both image AND sound emerge from the same physical substrate. Three minutes of medium fully coextensive with message — pure Lye/McLaren lineage and a Robbie Gunn sound design that's actually the visuals.
