The scouts
A filmmaker's work literally talking back, refusing to obey—it's the kind of self-lacerating meta-concept that should be insufferable, but Del Río leans into the surreal dread instead of winking at the camera, which makes it genuinely unsettling in a way most experimental shorts fumble.
The dialogue between creator and creation echoes Fellini's 8½ and Kaufman's meta-textual lineage, but Del Río's three-minute constraint forces a formal discipline that many feature-length explorations lack—each surreal gesture has to earn its weight.
The sound design choice to give the "rebelled" work a voice that's slightly out of sync with its image—almost like a dubbing error—transforms what could've been pretentious navel-gazing into something genuinely disorienting and intimate.
