The scouts
Two feral garbage-dwellers meeting a plant-humanoid on a trash planet should be cloying garbage itself, but instead it commits to the absurdist bit hard enough to make you actually laugh—the kind of film that ignores what sci-fi comedy is supposed to be and just *does* it.
The whimsical absurdism walks a tightrope between anarchic humor and genuine formal control; the animation and tonal consistency suggest a filmmaker aware of both Gilliam's grotesquerie and the lineage of philosophical sci-fi comedy, even at six minutes.
The decision to play the feral men as genuinely feral—unglamorous, communicating through gesture and primal logic rather than quippy banter—is what sells the humanoid plant discovery as something actually *strange* instead of just a cute concept.
Reviews
Oh this is so fun! Seed is a wacky, clever, amusing 6-minute sci-fi comedy short film from Canada made by filmmaker Cameron Macgowan. I really dig the 2D creature and the dialogue-free kookiness of this film.
