The inversion is neat — audience-as-prey instead of screen-as-window — but it's been done enough in found-footage and meta-horror that Shift needs to earn its subversion, and a 4-minute runtime doesn't give Romano room to complicate the premise beyond the flip itself.

Romano demonstrates assured formal control: the pacing between domestic mundanity and uncanny rupture follows a classical horror grammar, and the editing rhythm respects the tension-and-release cadence you'd find in Polanski or early Ari Aster, even if the concept itself doesn't break new conceptual ground.

The invisible pivot happens in the sound design — that moment when the television's ambient noise becomes *directional*, when you realize the audience is being watched from inside the screen rather than the other way around — that single audio choice transforms a premise into an experience on a shoestring budget.
