Tones: contemplative, dark
A father takes desperate measures to save his sick son, but his devotion mutates from a selfless act into a selfish obsession.

The premise wants to be a moral inversion—love corrupts, devotion becomes monstrosity—but it executes that flip with such restraint and gravity that it almost cancels out the transgression. If Noonan had let the mutation get *weird*, genuinely unsettling rather than darkly contemplative, I'd be here for it.
Noonan situates this in the lineage of ethical thrillers that ask whether care can become complicity—a tradition stretching from Pasolini through contemporary art cinema—and the formal discipline here (the pacing, the withholding of specificity) feels intentional and precise in service of that argument.
The power lives in what Noonan withholds: she never shows us the 'desperate measures' directly, forcing the viewer's imagination to complete the transgression, which makes the father's rationalization infinitely more unsettling than any explicit act could be.
