It's a romance that knows exactly what it is—which is almost disappointing until you realize the film's actually about the gap between expectation and reality, and that gap is doing all the heavy lifting; shame it doesn't push harder into that contradiction.
Bonelli situates this quiet reunion within the formal restraint of classical romance—the chance encounter, the unresolved past—but earns it through measured pacing and a restraint that trusts the viewer to feel the ache without being told; this is cinema that knows its lineage and respects it.
The film's architecture hinges on a single directorial choice: letting the camera stay still while the emotional temperature shifts between these three people, which transforms what could've been a sentimental premise into something genuinely suspended and uncertain.
