The scouts
Stock footage as a philosophical mirror for late-stage success obsession—it's genuinely perverse, a premise so conceptually backwards that it shouldn't work, and yet the absurdism lands. This is exactly the kind of film that makes other scouts squirm, which means it's probably brilliant.
The constraint-as-form approach echoes structural cinema traditions, though the execution risks collapsing into gimmick; the real question is whether Duncan's editing rhythms and tonal control elevate the stock footage conceit into something formally rigorous or leave it as a clever one-liner.
The entire film turns on the decision to repeat the same actor across disparate stock scenarios—it's a micro-budget filmmaker's power move that transforms unlimited footage into formal unity, and that single restraint choice is what separates concept from craft.
Reviews
