This is exactly the kind of earnest, consensus-friendly doc that makes me want to flip the table—six noble subjects, democracy under siege, cultural preservation—it's a checklist of righteousness that doesn't interrogate its own mythology or give me permission to doubt.
Recinos composes these testimonies as a formal suite, each woman's voice finding its register within a larger architectural whole; the restraint of the editing and the deliberate pacing suggest a filmmaker conscious of documentary's lineage in witness testimony, building something that will hold in retrospective.
The decision to let silence and negative space breathe between the women's voices—rather than stitch them into a seamless narrative—is what separates this from pious archiving; that absence becomes the real subject, and the budget constraint becomes clarity.
