A documentary about the residents of Mount Shasta, California, who share beliefs in underground civilizations, ascended masters, crystals, and lost continents — interviewing a guru, a channeller, a historian, and a scientist.

The scouts
It's a doc that could've been a lazy punchline about New Age weirdos, but instead Abrahams lets the believers breathe—no winking, no editorializing—which somehow makes the absurdity *more* unsettling than any mockumentary ever could.
The restraint is exquisite: four voices, four worldviews (guru, channeller, historian, scientist), arranged with the precision of a four-part fugue, each holding equal weight without irony or hierarchy—it's essayistic documentary at its most formally rigorous.
The decision to intercut testimony with long, patient shots of Mount Shasta itself—letting the landscape become a fifth character—transforms what could be talking heads into something genuinely meditative and strange.
Reviews
A wonderfully visual documentary with an otherworldly score, Telos or Bust is as much an exploration of Mount Shasta's bizarre origin story as it is an investigation into the psychology of its worshipers.
