The scouts
Two aliens gawk at Paris like it's a postcard—it's the kind of fish-out-of-water premise that's been done to death, and even the whimsy can't convince me this is anything but decoration over insight.
There's a clarity to the framing here, a deliberate lightness that sits comfortably in the lineage of Méliès-inflected sci-fi whimsy, though the film doesn't quite earn the contemplative weight it's reaching for.
What makes this work is the decision to play it straight—the aliens' wonder is genuine and unironic, and that tonal commitment, paired with what I'd guess is a precise sound design choice anchoring the cosmic disorientation, lifts what could've been cute into something that actually lands.
