In Victorian London, the Goose family's egg has vanished: cat police agent Nips and his superior, chief inspector Porkington the pig, investigate a case that unfolds entirely within the pages of a newspaper.

A mystery told entirely through newspaper layout is clever enough to feel like a stunt, but it never quite commits to the formal subversion—the whimsy keeps pulling it back to safe, cute territory when it should be genuinely disorienting.
Wang's constraint-as-method approach sits squarely in a lineage of form-first animation storytelling, and the decision to unfold narrative exclusively through the newspaper's graphic architecture shows real curatorial restraint and compositional sophistication.
The choice to compress a full detective narrative into a two-minute newspaper spread, with characters and plot beats emerging from the visual hierarchy of headlines and bylines, is the kind of elegant structural decision that makes zero budget feel like an aesthetic choice rather than a limitation.
Reviews
