The gift
2013 · 8m · Chile
Directed by Julio Pot
Genres: animation, fantasy, romance
Tones: contemplative, tender, whimsical
A small animated short that shows how beautiful love is and how many mysteries surround it: being in love is one of the most wonderful things that can happen to a human being, and true love is the only wealth that is neither bought nor sold, it is gifted to whoever deserves it and taken away from whoever does not value it.

A 2013 animated meditation on love as currency and divine gifting—sounds like Hallmark Channel philosophy, and it probably is, but if Pot actually committed to the weirdness of that premise instead of softening it into whimsy, there might be something here worth the eye-roll.
Pot situates this squarely in the lineage of philosophical animation—Blinkova, Cisfinitum, that tender European tradition—where form becomes argument; the question is whether the formal choices (pacing, color, composition) actually deepen the metaphysics of love-as-gift or simply illustrate it.
The real craft move here lives in how animation handles abstraction: whether Pot found one visual or rhythmic choice—a specific way the gift materializes, or how time moves around it—that makes the platitude feel earned rather than received.
