The scouts
A home invasion that pivots on literal eyeballs as unreliable narrators—this is the kind of premise that makes you groan until it doesn't, and then you're stuck defending it at parties. The fact that it somehow makes the severed-eye POV feel *inevitable* rather than gimmicky is exactly the subversive move most scouts would botch.
The formal restraint here is admirable: two directors resisting the temptation to wink at their own conceit, instead treating the ocular perspective as a genuine narrative architecture, situing themselves deliberately in the lineage of body-horror and experimental POV cinema without ever breaking frame.
The whole film hinges on one decision—committing fully to the eye's point of view without cutting away to "sanity," letting the framing stay locked and rotational—and that single disciplined choice is what transforms a conceptual punchline into something genuinely unsettling and formally inventive.
Reviews
This is gross, nasty, and actually pretty funny.
