The Night We Called It A Day
2022 · 14m · UK
Directed by Mauricio Mireles
Tones: melancholic, sensual, tender
Two former lovers and longtime jazz bandmates, Charlie and Diane, reunite for one final performance. As they rehearse through the night, memories resurface, tensions rise, and unspoken feelings linger — blurring the line between what once was and what still might be.

The scouts
Two ex-lovers, one last gig, jazz rehearsing through the night — the synopsis writes itself and so, unfortunately, did the script. Competently sad, instantly forgotten.
A late-night-rehearsal reunion of jazz ex-lovers is a respectable register for a Klipist short, though the comparisons to La La Land and Begin Again suggest a familiar emotional grammar rather than a discovery. Decent submission territory.
Late-night rehearsal as setting for jazz-musician ex-lovers reuniting is a sturdy frame, but I can only see the Klipist 14-min description, no specific craft details surfaced. Possibly solid, but I'd want to see the staging before betting hard on it.
