The scouts
A paranoia thriller where the antagonist is the protagonist's own reconstructed face—it's conceptually clever, but the execution doesn't quite flip the genre on its head the way it thinks it does, which is rare territory where I'd actually want it weirder.
Muro's command of noir visual language is assured, and the film sits comfortably in a lineage of psychological crime cinema; what's missing is the formal audacity that would separate this from its considerable precedents.
The choice to anchor the entire tension in the protagonist's inability to stop *looking* at his own reflection—using mirrors not as exposition but as a psychological cage—is the kind of micro-decision that transforms a standard paranoia plot into something claustrophobic and singular.
