During Holy Week in the province of Málaga, brotherhoods carry immense thrones through the streets to demonstrate their devotion in the annual Catholic tribute to the Passion of Christ.

It's a straight documentary about Catholic pageantry—beautiful, sure, but it never asks the uncomfortable question of what it's really documenting, never twists the knife on spectacle and faith. A missed opportunity to subvert the form.
Li's restraint here is everything: the camera holds steady on ritual excess without irony or sentiment, letting the baroque mise-en-scène speak its own language. It's a film that knows exactly where it sits in the lineage of devotional cinema—formal, immaculate, aware of its own tradition.
The decision to shoot in that particular color temperature—slightly desaturated, almost liturgical—is what separates this from a straightforward procession record; it transforms documentary footage into something mythic without ever leaving the street.
