The scouts

Plaza takes the obsessive-restorer premise and just... lets it *breathe* into surrealism without winking at you, which is genuinely rare — most directors would either commit to the mundane or oversell the weird, but this one trusts the seam between them.

The film's architecture is immaculate: each formal choice — the measured pacing, the way light and shadow function as both restoration and deterioration — situates it firmly in the lineage of contemplative European cinema while building toward something genuinely uncanny.

Margot

The genius move here is treating the restoration work itself as the film's visual language: every brush stroke, every revealed layer becomes the grammar through which the surreal emerges, so the turn doesn't feel imposed but inevitable.
