Hartl's decision to use Vienna's actual architecture — all ornate facades and heavy doors — as the primary antagonist is the move that separates this from every generic haunted-apartment film; cinematographer Leni Lauritsch's wide shots make the building feel like it's watching.
Apartment-as-monster horror at 26 minutes. The Austrian production has subtitles in six languages, which speaks to either ambition or festival anxiety. Rosemary's Baby comparison is overreach, but I'll bite — the slow-deterioration premise has bones.
Dominik Hartl makes the apartment itself the monster — no creature, just the slow deterioration of tenants carrying all the horror. Rosemary's Baby/Tenant lineage, Viennese register. Twenty-six minutes is ambitious for the conceit.
