The scouts
A man weaponizes nostalgia and apology as PR damage control—it's a setup so perfectly poisoned that you can't quite tell if the film is eviscerating him or joining him in the rationalization. Dempewolff resists the obvious moral landing and that's exactly why it works.
The film inherits a lineage of social satire that privileges discomfort over resolution, sitcom pacing over sentiment—there's a precision to how it withholds the catharsis we've been trained to expect, even if the execution doesn't quite reach the rigor of its premise.
The decision to play the entire contact as a series of fractured, almost awkward conversational beats—no grand confrontation, just the stilted reality of two people trying to navigate power they no longer understand—is what makes the satire actually sting.
Reviews
Wily, complicated and subversive, WE GOOD proves itself an entertaining, subtly provocative watch, thanks to its intelligent writing, sharp performances and sense of mischief. Usually the woman in her position is portrayed as a victim or a cipher, but here, she's complicated and powerful in her own way, smoothly taking control of the narrative.
