The scouts
A workplace drama that does exactly what you'd expect it to do—tenderly, competently, and with zero friction. The prop gimmick is tasteful restraint, not subversion, which means this film is probably better than I want to admit but definitely not for me.
Romanski demonstrates formal control in a register that recalls the emotional precision of workplace cinema from the 90s—the film knows its lineage and moves through it with genuine care, letting the actor and object do the heavy lifting that lesser directors would narrate.
The entire film lives or dies on how Loki holds that prop, and the decision to let the performance breathe rather than underscore it with sentiment is what transforms a small, obvious premise into something that actually lands—that kind of restraint at 8 minutes is rare.
Reviews
Simple, touching and pitch-perfect, this is one of the most inspirational 48HFP films I have seen in a while. Possible nominations for lead actor (Loki), writing and prop.
